Cinderella carriage a work of the heart

Cinderella carriage a work of the heart

ROB McDonald of Cranebrook waved his magic wand over a pumpkin, and amid a shimmer of silver stars appeared a beautiful white coach, fit to carry a princess.

He only completed the coach on Monday, and while he couldn’t catch any mice to transform into coach horses for us, he allowed The Gazette to photograph his creation.

With lacework hearts, glittering gold cherubs and 100-year-old coach lamps on the back, it’s every girl’s dream ride for that fairytale wedding.

His idea of a magical coach didn’t just come out of the blue. Mr McDonald has operated his Penrith business, Castlecrest Horse and Carriage Weddings, for 20 years, and had already made a landau (an open-top carriage) to be used for weddings. A friend, Mark Burton, made the coach frame and wheels, and it took a blacksmith two weeks to forge all the hearts in the ornate metal framework of the coach.

The design came from a photograph of the Cinderella coach at Disneyland in America, but Mr McDonald modified it somewhat when he drew up his own blueprint.

He has dapple grey Andalusian/Percheron steeds to pull it, and he said the magical transport is now available for hire anywhere in the Sydney metropolitan area.

He stipulates a 10km limit on his horses’ journey however once they are at the site.

At $1300 for three hours, he has three weddings booked already.
