THE State Government’s third budget included a record $13.9 billion to be invested in various infrastructure across NSW and the Hawkesbury area.
Riverstone MP John Aquilina said $9.26 million towards a new Windsor Police Station was just one of the local highlights.
“The allocation for Windsor Police Station is a substantial part of the $12.1 million project cost,” Mr Aquilina said.
“The budget also sets aside $106 million to begin work on the $12 bill-ion North West Metro Line project.
“This is another step forward in providing a fast train trip from Rouse Hill to the city, as well as freeing up passenger capacity on the Richmond and main Western lines.” Mr Aquilina said Riverstone wins a healthy share of the record $13.9 billion being invested this year in schools, hospitals, roads, transport and other infrastructure.
“The Iemma Government is also spending a record $47.6 billion on vital services, such as funding for nurses and teachers, more police and new technology in schools,” he said.
In the latest budget $20.6 million has been allocated to Riverstone’s roads to improve road safety, maintenance and network development including:
• $6 million to finalise the Windsor Flood Evacuation Route over South Creek;
• $5 million to upgrade the Garfield Road railway level crossing;
• $4.5 million for the cycle path from Windsor to McGraths Hill;
• $2 million for Riverstone Railway Overpass; and
• $22,000 for road safety officers.
Mr Aquilina said the budget is supporting several other important projects in Riverstone, including:
• $4.8 million towards the $5.1 million cost of upgrading the transport interchange at Windsor Railway Station and expanding the commuter carpark;
• $4.8 million towards the $6.49 million upgrade of facilities for building and architecture, information technology, performance, college administration and learning resource centre at Nirimba TAFE College;
• $2.8 million for an additional 23 community-based care places across the Sydney West Area Health Service;
• Replacing the demountable library at Windsor Public School with a permanent facility;
• $6 million towards the $67 million Rouse Hill Sewage Treatment Plant, and Recycled Water Plant amplification and upgrade;
• More than $1 million to upgrade social housing homes;
• $800,000 for accommodation for people with a disability to support the Government’s Stronger Together commitments; and
• $272,000 for upgrades at Riverstone Police Station.
“Over the next four years, the Iemma Government will fund key capital works projects worth almost $57.6 billion,” Mr Aquilina said.
“This is a massive 58 per cent higher than the previous four years.
“The increase is driven by investments in new and upgraded schools, TAFE colleges, health and hospital facilities, accommodation of the aged and disabled, roads and public transport including the North West Metro Line, and the assets of power and water utilities.
“Whether it’s better services or investment in infrastructure, the Iemma Government is delivering to the people of NSW.”
