MORE than 100 boats will churn up the Hawkesbury River for the world’s longest 2-up ski race – the third annual Evinrude BRP Hawkesbury 120 – at Governor Phillip Park on the weekend.
The event has attracted 193 entries in 118 boats, with more than 500 competitors set to take to the water for an event growing in stature alongside the two Bridge to Bridge Classics as one of the biggest races on the Hawkesbury River.
Racing starts at 9am on both days, with the social classes competing on Saturday in a race card that includes the warm-up Sackville Sprint event for the big boats that will aim to take the overall crown.
Alongside the Sprint, the other categories on the water on Saturday racing from Sackville to Windsor will be the Over 40s Expert, Senior Social, Under 10, 13 and 16, disabled and the SRNSW Invitational. The unlimited inboard and outboard, 5.2 and 6L inboard, MOC and SMOC outboard, Stock 6 litre inboard, 2.5L outboard, women’s social, 6L and 6 cylinder inboard and 60 and 70mph social events will be conducted from Windsor to Sackville and back.
The expert classes will take to the water on Sunday, with local favourite Stinga again set to be among the main chances for line honours in the big race from Windsor to Wisemans Ferry and back.
Stinga heads the Superclass field, although spectators will also see plenty of action in the other categories.
The Paradise Afloat Ski Racing Team will again enter this year’s Hawkesbury 120, with the aim to raise funds for sick and disabled children. This entry is unique as Darren Osmotherly will be skiing the race backwards. Spectators can sponsor the team per kilometre.
