Boylan's smokin'

WATERSKIING sensation Amy Boylan of Ebenezer has done it again, taking out another prestigious event – this time winning the Queensland State Waterskiing Titles in Grafton.

On the Queen’s Birthday long weekend Amy finished first in the Under 10s waterskiing event, adding the Queensland competition to her NSW and Australian national titles.

It was the last competition Amy could compete in her division, having just turned 10 and now going up to an older age bracket for next season. She must now compete against skiers aged up to 13.

Behind a less familiar vessel to what she is used to, Amy was towed by Craig and Emily Boswell’s boat ‘Still Sparken’ after years trailing her family boat ‘Mr B’, owned by Bridge to Bridge champion and father, Kevin Boylan.

The 10-year-old’s success has also earned her sponsorship from ‘Coldy’s Tow Bars’ and ‘Strictly Marine’ helping Amy to keep competing and hold on to her national and State titles.

Amy, however, experienced her own success at last month’s Bridge to Bridge, skiing the 30km course of the Brooklyn to Windsor contest in record time, beating her own time by a staggering four minutes.

But if that wasn’t enough, Amy backed up her win the following day skiing the whole Bridge to Bridge and finishing first in the Under 10’s category with her partner Jack Harrison from Pitt Town.

The Clarence River at Grafton is a course Amy looks to be more than comfortable with after she competed in the Australian Speed and Marathon Championships at the beginning of the year.

In January, she became a two-time national champion when she successfully defended her 10 years girls crown. Amy was in a tight battle with another girl but her opponent’s fall on the second lap eased a bit of the pressure for her.

The year prior she won the Australian title on the still water of Lake Eucumbene at Jindabyne proving she can ski on any kind of water. Amy’s season of racing starts in August and finishes in June where she races throughout NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

Last year’s local Hawkesbury 120 event from Windsor to Wiseman’s and back saw the Tiny Tot competitors ski from Sackville to Windsor one way which is about 30 km. Amy finished second.

However, her taste at being second-best was short-lived, with her following race the NSW State Ski Racing Championships where she finished first for the second year in a row.

Amy now has two months off before her next big event in the Hawkesbury.
